On February 8th this winter I had snowdrops up and blooming in front of my barn in Portsmouth. At the same time, at Rolling Green, Jelena the Witchhazel was blooming and fragrant over near the perennial mats. Right now the knobby pink flowers of my hellebores are started to come up through all the tattered semi evergreen foliage. This is the perfect time to cut some forsythia or quince stems to force in the house in a vase.
