As part of our free Garden School Series, Pete Bottomley from Coast of Maine will be here to discuss healthy soil, the Soil Food Web, and its importance to sustainable gardening. Learn about some of their organic soil blends (eg.s Bumper crop, Lobster Compost, Bar Harbor), how various soil recipes affect your plants and crops, and why using organic soil is so important. You’ll also learn about organic plant food and liquid fertilizers, and how, why, and when to use them. They’re be plenty of time at the end of the class for Q&A as well.
Coast of Maine Organic Products was founded in 1996 with the simple idea that a healthy planet needs healthy soil to sustain life. From this idea, a love of gardening and a commitment to sustainable practices, they have grown to offer what we believe are the most unique and effective organic gardening products available.
Coast of Maine soil blends can include things like shellfish and lobster shells, seaweeds, blueberries, bat guano, chicken dung, and cow manure – some of nature’s richest composting materials. Bumper Crop is a privately owned brand produced by Coast of Maine and sold exclusively at Master Nurseries.
Pete Bottomley started his career in the Horticulture Industry in California with Monrovia Nursery in 1984. He transitioned to the soil side of the business in 2003 when he joined Coast of Maine Organic Products. During a five year stretch with Coast of Maine, he became an independent representative for the Company so he could take on additional projects including: writing a column for a national magazine, consulting for a National brand of organic fertilizer and owning / operating an organic lawn care company called Safelawns. He likes to share his deep appreciation for the miracle of plant and soil life.
This class will be packed with great information for gardeners in all forms – don’t miss it!
