Garden woes? Visit our Garden Store’s Plant Pharmacy. We have a wide selection of eco-friendly treatments that help your plants look and perform their best. Here are some of the remedies we most prescribe.
Fungus Treatment
Neem Oil belongs in every gardener’s plant medicine cabinet because it can be used as both a miticide and fungicide. It works on arthropod pests that often eat vegetables, including tomato hornworms, corn earworm, aphids, and whiteflies. Use it to kill mites, crawler-stage scale, caterpillars, and mealybugs as well. Since Neem Oil kills insects at all stages of development (adult, larvae, and egg), you can use it as a dormant-season application, or as a foliar spray on both indoor and outdoor plants.
Neem oil also controls common fungi and mildew issues. Organic and biodegradable neem oil insecticide does not create a “dead zone” around treated plants and it does not harm pets, wildlife, or earth worms. Tip: Before you move your houseplants back indoors from their “summer camp” outside on your porch, spray them down with Neem Oil to prevent insects from hitching a ride into your home.
Nutrients
Neptune’s Harvest Organic Fish/Seaweed Blend Fertilizer gives your houseplants, including edibles, a nice dose of natural nutrients to maintain their overall health. Once a month, mix 1 tablespoon of Neptune’s Harvest per gallon of water when watering your plants to make flowers and foliage more plentiful, colorful, fragrant, and long-lasting.
Insect Control
Captain Jack’s is approved for organic gardening to control a wide range of listed insect pests. Use on vegetables, citrus, fruits, flowers, and ornamentals. Contains Spinosad, and kills aphids, bagworms, borers, beetles, caterpillars, leaf miners, spider mites, and thrips. Leaves a low environmental impact as well. Neem oil can also be used as an insect deterrent though do not spray the flowers themselves, as it can affect pollinators. Spray the foliage and stems only.
Critter Control
We recommend PlantSkydd and Everguard for effective deterrence of both rabbit and deer. Don’t worry – they don’t hurt the animal. They just smell offensive to them, so they go nibble elsewhere. Sprinkle or spray them around beds and plants after it rains. All-natural, non-toxic, and kid, pet, and pollinator friendly.
Stress Care
Superthrive is a great medicine for when plants are stressed by drought, transplantation, propagation, or hard pruning. It is a reliable, nontoxic, and soothing treatment that acts as a root reviver and growth stimulator. Use it once weekly for four weeks, and your plants should recuperate quickly. Superthrive is great for indoor and outdoor plants, including Christmas trees and edibles.
These products should help you battle a wide variety of challenges, but if you need additional ammunition, come on in – we’re always happy to answer questions and advise.
